Few weeks ago, I got an invite to a photo shoot for Project Headshot Clinic, led by talented photographer, Niccolo Cosme.

While waiting for my turn, me and other participants for the said photo shoot gathered with a representative from Take The Test Philippines and discussed the state of HIV/AIDS in the Philippines.

Things you should know about HIV and AIDS:

HIV or Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a retrovirus that causes HIV infection and lowers the immune system of a person is infected with this virus. Meanwhile, AIDS or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome is a condition characterized by a combination of signs and symptoms, caused by HIV contracted from another which attacks and weakens the immune system.

A lot of people still wondering how HIV is transmitted to a person. You can acquire it by having unprotected sexual intercourse with someone who is HIV positive, sharing syringes and needles from someone is HIV positive, mothers who are contracted with the virus to their unborn babies and through breastfeeding.

FYI:  Kissing someone, casual contacts (hugs, handshakes), eating/drinking/sharing house with an infected person cannot be transmitted with person with HIV. HIV doesn’t have vaccine and NO cure. 

Always remember the A-B-C-D-E of AIDS Prevention:
A – Abstinence
B – Be faithful
C – Careful Sex 
D – Don’t share needles/ sterilized needles
E – Education and Information
