Residents of the Gawad Kalinga community in Bantayan Island, Cebu received much-needed support from Jardine Distribution, Inc., (JDI) in the form of construction materials and elastomeric sealants. They were also given on-site training for the use of said materials. The donation was very important in helping residents finish the construction of their homes.
According to Peachy C. Tiu, JDI Construction Supplies Marketing Manager, JDI’s main goal for making the donation is to help the victims of Typhoon Yolanda build their lives by helping them re-build their homes through the use of JDI construction products and Sureseal elastomeric sealant.
The turnover of the GK donations was facilitated by Jardine Visayas Area Manager Albert M. Arieta. He also conducted the on-site training for the proper and safe use of Sureseal and other JDI construction products.
“Beneficiaries of Gawad Kalinga’s housing program are all required to render 2,000 hours of construction work on their homes. This gives them a greater sense of ownership and community. We at Jardine feel privileged to join them in their efforts to build homes for their loved ones and to create a true community. Some of the residents of the Bantayan Island GK community are experienced carpenters, masons and construction workers. Our part was to provide them with free materials to help ensure that their homes are sturdy and protected from rainy weather. In doing so, we all worked together not only in building homes but also in building a better future for all the GK residents,” said Mr. Arieta.
Sureseal elastomeric sealant is an elastomeric sealant with “Iwas-Crack” advantage. Unlike other brands, it does not crack because of its elastic formulation that moves with the substrate. It is an effective sealant not only for GI roofing but also for gutters and downspouts.
